China has overtaken India to become the worlds leading provider of stem cell treatments. To manage this largely new and legally fuzzy area of medicine, Chinese authorities have spent the last couple of years trying to build a legal and regulatory structure that will continue to support serious healthcare providers as well as protect patients and over the course of the next couple of mont…

China regulates adult stem cell treatment

At a press conference on Tuesday, regulators at the Chinese Ministry of Health unveiled the latest in a line of regulation aimed at controlling the growing stem cell industry. Deng Haihua, spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Health explained that
"all medical research and clinical practices of stem cell therapywithout approval from the ministry and the State Food and Drug Administration will be put to an end after the overhaul."

This does, however, not spell the end of stem cell therapy in China and is good news for patients looking for safe and effective…

Adult stem cells reverse the aging process

Adult stem cells are increasingly being used effectively in anti-aging treatments. At an increasing number of clinics worldwide, stem cells have shown to be effective in slowing aging, improving skin elasticity and decreasing the general signs of aging.

Recent research, published in the scientific journal Nature Communications, further supports the results achieved by these adult stem cell treatments. In experiments carried out at the University of Pittsburg, scientists have seen that new stem cells not only replace dead or damaged cells in the body, they can also revive …

Can adult stem cells give hope to the hearing impaired?

Will the next adult stem cell treatment help improve hearing? Scientists in the UK seem to think it might. According to recent research at Britain's Keele University, stem cells may be able to regenerate the lost or damaged fibrocytes that are the leading causes of hearing impairment in the elderly.

Research has shown that for most elderly patients hearing begins to decline when their so called fibrocytes, or cells within the inner ear which manage levels of potassium and sodium, start to degenerate. In fact, cell degeneration is a common cause of many of our age related ailments,…

MS stem cell model unveiled

In a world first, Australian scientists have for the first time been able to create a stem cell model of pluripotent cells from a human skin biopsy that has the ability to regenerate brain cells damaged or destroyed in patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.

The results, published in the scientific journal Stem Cell Research, is important because scientists had used skin cells, which meant avoiding the use of human embryos and ethical issues.

This is another breakthrough in adult stem cell research and paves the way for further treatments that benefit MS suffere…

Therapeutic adult stem cell treatments on the rise

It is increasingly looking like stem cells are becoming a therapeutic option globally. With several spinal cord injury patients in the US treated with stem cells over the last year in government approved clinical trials, therapies and treatments are coming out of the shadows of medicine and into mainstream treatment rooms.

In China however, adult stem cell treatments have moved beyond the clinical trial stage and are increasingly becoming the preferred option for doctors all over the country. As more specialist hospitals embrace regenerative medicine as a viable treatment option, p…

Adult stem cells regenerate blood vessels

Adult stem cells have been shown to successfully regenerate blood vessels. A recent medical breakthrough has shown adult stem cells to be able to regenerate human blood vessels successfully. This means that victims of stroke and heart disease have a better chance of recovery and that these medical conditions can be avoided at an early stage as alternative blood routes can be opened up and blockage of blood supply can be prevented.

In the treatment of diabetic neuropathy, the benefits of blood vessel regeneration have long been known. Stem cells are used to induce the regeneration of…

Focus on stem cell treatments for heart disease

Clinical trials focused on the therapeutic use of adult stem cells are on the rise. Many of the therapies being developed place a particular focus on heart disease. "A lot of big companies are looking to place bets on some Phase II products once that data has been confirmed," said Paul Schmitt, managing partner at Wayne, Pa.-based venture capital firm Novitas Capital. "Even now they're attending all the medical meetings and talking to all the stem cell companies."

While products are being developed however, therapy is quietly being administered outside the world of patents and legis…

Adult stem cell treatment shows increasing promise for patients worldwide

Adult stem cells are, in clinical trials and treatment rooms all over the world, proving to be a genuine step forward in stem cell treatment, with successful treatments already being conducted at many well renowned hospitals worldwide. Moreover, adult stem cells have safely and successfully been used in therapy for almost four decades in bone marrow transplants.

Embryonic stem cells have long been viewed as the “big promise” within medicine because of their capacity to divide. However, the use of embryonic stem cells has in practice not reached the treatment room, as their endless c…

A growing interest in adult stem cell treatment and the roll of the patient

Lately, we have been seeing a great interest in adult stem cell treatments in a wider perspective. We've seen attention from the medical community, from patients, media and university studies. As the stem cell community grows, we believe this is an important acknowledgment of the roll of patients in global healthcare.

Here is an extract from the abstract of a recently published academic paper:

Our data show that patients who had been treated ... view themselves as proactively pursuing treatment choices that are not available in their home countries. These patients…
