Data shows efficacy of stem cell therapy for diabetic neuropathy

Clinical testing shows that after stem cell therapy 87% of all treated patients experience:

  • Decreased pain
  • Increased mobility
  • Improved sensation
  • Normalized limb temperature

In addition to the immediate benefits of added mobility and less pain, many patients who go through adult stem cell treatment for diabetic neuropathy are able to completely avoid amputations that may otherwise have been inevitable.

You may see improvements during your hospitalization due to neurotrophic factors released during the stem cell transplantation, which stimulate nerve activity; new cells will grow for up to six months after you have completed your treatment and you will continue to see results during that time.

Delivery methods and stem cell types

To deliver the cells, specialists inject stem cells directly into the damaged limb. This treatment, along side IV drip, safely and effectively enable the stem cells to reach the site of injury, allowing cell regeneration where it's needed.

In treatments for diabetic neuropathy the following types of cells are used:

  • Umbilical cord stem cells
  • Autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

All stem cells are processed, tested and cultured before implantation. The delivery method and type of stem cell ultimately used for your treatment will be determined by the medical team and depends on your individual condition.

Side effects and risks

As with all medical procedures, you may experience some side effects following your implantation, the most common are: dizziness, nausea, headaches or a slight fever. These side effects do not pose any threat to the overall success of the treatment and are temporary.

Independent research shows that rejection reactions, tumors or other stronger side effects of stem cell implantation are highly unlikely. Stem cells have, in fact, been shown to reduce rejection reactions in for example organ transplants. These research results are supported by years of clinical use. Adult stem cells, as apposed to embryonic stem cells, have successfully been used in medical treatment for the last 40 years all over the world, China is the first country to successfully begin implementing adult stem cell treatment for neuropathy.
